UCI Physics Assembly

We had an amazing physics assembly today put on by the University of California Irvine. The assembly taught us all about waves. Four new vocabulary terms we learned were Vibration, Frequency, Amplitude, and Resonance.

What do you see happening in the two videos? What do you know about waves?

  1. Well I know that the softer it is the higher it is and the bigger something is the deeper it is like the two videos or resonance .

  2. The difference in these two videos, I hear a voice, and I see the thing. The moving thing is the resonance and frequency, your voice is vibration, and amplitude.

  3. I learned that vibration is how you hear. It happens when your vocal cords make waves the ear drums pick them up and that is how you can hear.

  4. I know that a tsunami is caused by earthquakes an earthquake is when the earth vibrates. And I will soon love to research more about the earths vibration and share it with the class. My real guest ion is what causes the earth to vibrate???

  5. I can see that in the first video the tubes are moving differently from moving faster and slower. In the second video you were using sound waves. Depending on how high or low you spoke into the graph maker the frequency would show. What I know is the sound you make sends vibrations to the machine.

  6. It’s really cool that you can do that! I also learned that, amplitude is kinda the same as frequency. Thanks for the assembly!

  7. Before today’s lesson on waves I didn’t know anything. But now I know more, there are four words that I learned that go with waves vibration, Frequency, amplitude, resonance. Vibrations was awesome because it was like weird sounds.

  8. I see that the waves are vibrating when you were talking. When you where at a low voice the monitor made lots of vibrations, although not a high amplitude although when you were high pitched the monitor made the same amount of vibrations although the amplitude was high almost at a 10. What I know about waves are that they can vibrate on different amplitudes and frequency.

  9. In video one the the three bars that are moving one of the them is fast one is medium and one is slow. You can make a wave by speaking into the graph maker.

  10. Dear Mr. Helpern, the second video is vibration when you speak through the microphone. You make the graphmaker pick up your sound and it puts it on the chart and you can see, the sound you made.

  11. I noticed that there was vibration in both videos! I know that waves have frequency, vibration, amplitude and resonance. And that sound waves, I believe, are sent out and when our eardrums pick it up, they vibrate.

  12. Dear Mr. Helpern, The second video is Vibration. When you speak in the microphone it sends waves witch makes a swigily lines so you can see the waves. I learned that you can make a wave by moving something back and forth.

  13. i liked how we learned different waves like sound waves and light waves.I like how you showed us how the wave changed when your voice did.

  14. I see that when you talked into the the little microphone the waves had vibration and when you shook the loobs they were frequency.

  15. The thing I saw in those to videos was the 3 different color tool. The colors represent the high and low sounds. Like the red one. The red one is the high one because when you move it, it goes fast. If you move the yellow one its not compared to the red one. It’s like a medium wave. And the blue one if you move it its a low one because it is moving very slow.

  16. inorder to make a wave there has to be a other part to make a full wave inorder for the wave to make a full wave and I also learned new vocabular
